Miscellaneous breech systems. Throughout the 19th and 20th century the development of new and better breech systems flourished which led to many pistol builders experimenting with various systems, trying to comply with the growing demand of the increasing number of target shooters. Throughout this era, some systems were adaptations of existing breech systems instead of new inventions. Other systems formed the basis for further development, while still others diminished.
