This pistol was made in Liege, Belgium around 1870-90’s and has an interesting and unusual Remington type Rolling breech block. Hammer, extractor and Remington inspired breech block are closed and the pistol is ready to fire. The firing pin can be seen seated in the middle of the breech. Note that the hammer spur is offset. This was made so that the shooter could see his sights while taking aim

Once the pistol is loaded, the breech is rotated back in place and the pistol can be fired. Once the hammer moves forward, it interlocks with the breech block by a notch in the hammer. The hammer hits the firing pin and the pistol is fired.

Although not a true Remington Rolling block, it is generally referred to it as the principle remains the same.
