After the era of the flintlock target pistols the invention of the new percussion caps and rifled barrels during the early 1800’s, a new and far more reliable ignition system was introduced. Nearly all well known gunsmiths made and sold percussion pistols. This included the percussion Scheibenpistol. The percussion gradually gave way to the cartridge powered pistols during the middle of the 19th century.
Many beautiful examples still exist in museums and private collectors. Some authors agrue that these percussion sytems were – and still are – the most accurate target pistols ever made!
