These beautifully-made pistols were produced by the company of George Scharfenberg (Zella-Mehlis, Germany) and were patented (DRGM) back in 1892. Scharfenberg was a renowned gunmaker of mostly small caliber sporting and hunting arms. His only son Heinrich (who had 12 children himself) took over the family business and continued making good-quality firearms. He did this until it finally stopped in 1942.
These Scheibenpistols came in many variations, with simple leaf sights to the more elaborate adjustable Swiss-type sight, rounded as well as fluted barrels, from simple wooden grips to beautifully hand-carved ebony grips. Some were finished by special engravers who could finish these pistols as sublime pieces of art. They were sold in many different calibers however, the most common were the various .22 calibers.
