The company of the well-known German gunmaker Friedrich Wilhelm Kessler (*1845-1919) was established in the city of Suhl (Germany) in 1869. The company produced high quality sporting arms and introduced this pistol in 1903 when it obtained a D.R.G.M. for its Radial block or Winkelblock breech design.

The pistol is a self-cocking pistol with an angled or pivoting breech block, a parallel guided cartridge extractor with a loading or cocking lever located in the handle whose lock, hammer, and action rod are all pivoted on the inner wall of the receiver and operated by
a double leg mainspring. It was an improved copy of the Schulhoff pistol with which is has many of its characteristics, except for its internal workings which are different.
