This salonpistol Model 1865 was designed by William Tranter from Oldbury. He was particularly known for his excellent revolvers.
This pistol is a single action break open type, has no safety and simple fixed sights. Loading the pistol one needs to depress the release catch underneath the frame. This disengages the barrel and partly extracts the empty cartridge. A new cartridge can now be loaded and fired.
This pistol was probably sold by W.R. Leeson from Ashford – Kent. according to Adrian Macer who has an amazing website dedicated to the guns from W.R. Leeson www.wrleeson.co.uk
