This beautifully decorated pistol was made by Peter Schenk who worked between 1853 intil 1880 in Marienbad/Bohemia (Czech Republic). From its caliber we can conclude that the pistol was made between 1860 to 1880. He signed the pistol:

P. Schenk & Son Marienbad.

The system was patented of March 12th, 1861 as a “Backloading firearms” by Lebeda. Later on it was improved by Novotny.

The opening lever is situated as part- and in front of the trigger guard. When depressing the front part of the trigger guard, it releases a catch and the barrel drops down.

It is a very ornate and highly decorated pistol with deep engravings and gold inlaid parts. The laced barrel signed “P.SCHENK & SOHN” in gold has small ornamental gold inlays, the lock and slide also have rich engravings. The lock plate is signed “IN MARIENBAD” in the golden oval.
