This pistol was developed and build by Adolph Friedrich Theodor Frohn (1873-1905) from Suhl (Germany). Frohn had taken over an existing gun making company from Cristoph Grüber & Co. in Suhl in 1868. This was continued after Frohn passing by his son in law and his siblings until around 1927.
Frohn himself was an avid target shooter, an honorary marksman for 20 years (1873-1893) and was renowned for his development of the well known 8.15 x 46.5R Frohn target shooting cartridge, although some authors contest this. He is especially remembered for his exquisitely high quality target shooting rifles and pistols.
The Frohn company registered this pistol system (with a DRGM number 429442) in 1914. It consisted of a Break-open system. When the Stevens type release button is pushed, the barrel breaks open and tips down and at the same time cocking the internal coil spring hammer. It has double set triggers and an elongated straight barrel-action build and adjustable rear sights. The grips have a thumb rest and are deeply checkered. These pistols nearly all have beautiful engravings on the breech showing some ornate flower patterns.
